\section python_usage_df Discoverable Features
In UHD, discoverable features are features which can be queried at runtime as they
may not be available on all devices. The Python API provides a mapping to the
C++ API for discoverable features. Some of these features are available from the
motherboard controller, others are available from the radio controller. Some of
the features have already been available in Python, but the discoverable feature
API provides a more generic way to query them and is more aligned with the C++ API.
The following snippet shows how to work with discoverable features in the Python API:
~~~{.py}
import uhd
graph = uhd.rfnoc.RfNoCGraph("type=X440")
mbc = graph.get_mb_controller()
has_feature = mbc.has_feature(uhd.types.DiscoverableFeatureID.GPIO_POWER)
if has_feature:
gpio_power = mbc.get_feature(uhd.types.DiscoverableFeatureID.GPIO_POWER)
~~~
The example shows how to get the GPIO power feature from an X440 device. After getting
the feature, the methods of the feature can be accessed via the feature object.
For a functional example of how to use discoverable features in a Python application,
please refer to the Python SPI example in the UHD source tree at
host/examples/python/spi.py.
